Guardians of the Galaxy is my favorite series in the Marvel Universe, so I was very honored to be able to work in the Art Department under the Director James Gunn, Production Designer Beth Mickle, Supervising AD Alan Hook and AD David Scott!

THE BOWIE

After Avengers End Game, the Guardians crew needed a new ship, so the Bowie was born. Meant to be a ship built by Rocket, it had to be very dynamic and carry smaller ships, but integrated in the design aesthetic so it was a bit of surprise when the detachment happens.

BOWIE ANIMATION TEST

The director James Gunn wanted the Bowie to be a more dynamic ship, so when Beth decided to further develop this version, I started to figure out how it could the parts and engines could work:

SMALL SHIPS DETACHMENT

At some point in the story the Bowie released three smaller crafts, which at first glance is seamless with the design. Working in 3d really helped to figure out how they detach from the fuselage:

SMALL SHIPS

I was also able to design the two side ships in more detail, including the cockpits:

BOWIE INTERIOR

I was able to help design some of the Bowie interior along with a big team of amazing artists. Here are some of the work I did:

MED BAY

FUSION CORE

PILOT BAY SEAT

CORRIDOR DOORS

ROCKET ESCAPE SHIP

When little Rocket escaped, he needed to find a vessel to leave the planet he was imprisoned. I was able to leverage an earlier Bowie version and convert to an escape ship since it was a smaller type of ship design:

BOWIE EARLY EXPLORATION

To arrive at the featured design, I worked with Beth Mickle and David Scott generating some quick studies, just to find interesting silhouettes and proportions. Here is the result of this study:

REFINEMENT PASS

After the best designs were picked, I developed them further to be able to show the director:
